Medza Metz.....at Half Way Point

Jun 16 2009 6:43AM

The half GOOD -- Half BAD McKay Club Beacons need a win real bad. Things looked bright and proper last week when the Beacons mounted a sound attack against their opponents and constructed an 8-6 record. Since then -- it has all been down-hill. Losing three in a row have put the Dorchester team one game under .500.

BUT - there is a bright light shimmering here. IF the playoffs were to begin the Beacons would gain the 6th playoff spot. We know after 17 games and a little less than half the season left -- that ain't gonna happen.

Winning is essential in order to make the playoffs in any league. The Beacons make it a habit of looking good then drifting into mediocratity. That has been an unfortunate habit of this Club over the past 4 playoff-less summers.

There is a serious need beginning tonight to make a move and JUST WIN!

No speaches or articles on webpages will make a team win ball games. It takes pure play between the white lines. Solid pitching and defence will give you a head start. The hitting is there. The Beacons are in 3rd place in YBL batting. BUT, they bring up the middle-end of the league in both - pitching and D.

An improvment in pitching and D must occur to defeat one of the best YBL teams' in the personage of the Malden Bull Dogs at Maplewood Park Tuesday evening. Can that happen -- sure!

It is time to come out of the dumps -- play with a spring in yer step and JUST WIN!

Eight Innings of Baseball Bliss

May 30 2009 11:54AM

McKay Club Defeats Chelsea 3-2
MAY 29 @ RONAN PARK IN DORCHESTER

One of the best games I have seen in 10 years in the YBL. Great pitching clutch plays and a mistake or two led to this 8 inning extravaganza of quality amateur baseball at Ronan Park.

Nick O'Keefe (Beacons) 7IP tossed a 3 hitter and left (with the score tied) in the 8th in favor of Brian Glenn. Glenn gave up the lead run on a balk. BUT, with the bases loaded and 2 out Mike Barthel smashed a 2 run single to walk off with ba huge win.

Drew Tambling did it all in the bottom of the 1st to score the first run for the Beacons. He singled - stole 2nd and 3rd and scampered home when Barthel hit a tapper to the right of the mound for an RBI out. Drew hit the farthest foul ball I have ever seen in 20 years at Ronan in the 8th. He smashed a 430ft line drive about 5ft foul down the right field line. That would have been a walk off for the ages.

Matt Manganelli pitched 7 and was in line for the victory. This kid pitched his ass off all night long. Kevin Loveless came in in the 8th and blew the save.

Chelsea is the Franchise of the Year candidate in the early going. They have become a force in this league. They play with the heart of a lion.

Too bad someone had to lose this game. It was a gem from start to finish.

REVERE WALKS OFF WITH A HUGE WIN

May 14 2009 1:39AM

We have seen The BAD - The GOOD and The UGLY in the first three games of the '09 season. A BAD 9-3 loss to Malden -- a Good 11-3 victory against Savin Hill and an UGLY loss vs Revere 16-3 have marked the beginning of the season..

Last night McKay Club pitchers caughed up 19 walks - YES 19! - and allowed the Revere Rockies to coast to a huge 16-3 win at Ronan Park.

The only highlights of this encounter were: the solid hitting of Dan Ciocca 2-4 with 2RBI and the decent pitching of young Nick O'Keefe and Ben Dora in relief.

Other than that the McKay Club should have stayed away from Ronan on May 13!

There is always Friday evening same place and time against the 2008 YBL Champion West Roxbury Blue Fish! It does not get any easier boys and girls.

McKay Club Defeat Savin Hill 11 to 3

May 12 2009 7:03AM

The UMass Guys were slow to arrive and mass confusion plagued the Game One 9-3 loss to malden at Ronan Park the day before. Things settled down on Monday night. The real McKay Club showed up to play the new and improved Savin Hill Hornets on their home turf.

Several players were late, due to the UMass Awards program and a make-shift lineup included some players out of position. This did not seem to hurt our chances against the Hornets.

The Beacons took and early 4-0 lead. the 4 runs were scored during inning 1 & 2. New guy - Artie lauzier of Umass by way for fall river led with a single. Artie stole second and came home on Dan Ciocca's solid smash up the middle. Ciocca is 2nd in the YBL after two games with his .750BA.

Ciocca would also steal second and round the bases on John Fidalgo's two bagger.

Lauzier led the second stanza with a double and Ciocca smashed another single plating Louzier. Things quieted down for the beacon offence when no runs scored in the 3rd, 4th and 5th.

Savin Hill made an effort to come back and scored 3 runs (2 unearned) off of starter Adam Kulis, who went 4 solid innings. Things settled down after that when a new pitcher cam on to help Adam out.

Dean Sandonato from Quincy has been a work in progress for the McKay club over the past 2 seasons. Dean looks better than ever. he tossed two complete innings. Dean allowed two hits and no runs.

Former UMass, Boston standout Mike Dora cam on to pitch the 7th for the Beacons.
